What Is the Difference Between a Professional Master's and an Academic Master's?
The key difference lies in their focus: while the Academic Master's is primarily geared toward research and academic careers—especially teaching and scholarly investigation—the Professional Master's is a graduate program designed to enhance the qualifications of working professionals through the study of techniques and processes that respond to specific demands of the job market.
Research proposals in a Professional Master's program must include a curriculum structure that emphasizes the integration of up-to-date knowledge, methodological proficiency, and application aimed at a specific professional field. The final requirement of the program—a Master’s dissertation—must always be tied to real-world problems within the student’s area of professional practice.
